Why Shabana FC will play the next five home matches without fans

Shabana FC will play their next five Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF PL) home matches without fans, starting this Saturday when they face Posta Rangers. This decision follows an incident involving Shabana FC supporters during their 2-2 draw against Ulinzi Stars FC.

Chaos erupted at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Sunday after a late equalizer by Ulinzi Stars. Shabana fans reacted violently, vandalizing stadium seats, which led to strict sanctions imposed by the FKF’s Leagues and Competitions Committee (LCC).

Shabana FC was found in violation of Regulation 9.3.3 of the Rules and Regulations Governing Kenyan Football (2019). The regulation holds clubs accountable for the behavior of their fans, stating that clubs must ensure their supporters refrain from violent, threatening, abusive, or unsporting conduct at matches

Additionally, Shabana FC was found guilty of violating Regulation 9.1.2.12, which outlines specific acts of fan misconduct, including:

  • Invasion or attempted invasion of the pitch, except for safety reasons.
  • Causing or attempting to cause match abandonment.
  • Throwing objects or missiles onto the field.
  • Acts of violence or attempts of violence against anyone at the match.
  • Vandalizing property at the venue.
  • Insulting or assaulting players, officials, or other individuals present at the game.
  • Unsporting behavior.

Additional Consequences for Shabana FC:

  1. Damages: Shabana FC is required to cover the costs for the repair of the damaged seats at Ulinzi Sports Complex.
  2. Medical Expenses: The club must also compensate for the medical expenses of two officers injured during the incident. Ulinzi Stars FC will provide the necessary receipts for these expenses, and Shabana FC is expected to cover the full cost.

The club has been urged to ensure that its supporters comply with the sanctions and maintain discipline going forward.
