Wife inheritor burns house of a widow in Siaya

A 37-year-old widow in Ugenya, Siaya County had to endure a night in the cold after her house was reportedly set on fire by a man who inherited her.

The incident happened when Grace Auma Oyugi, the victim, reportedly had a disagreement with Isaiah Goro, the man who allegedly set her house on fire.

The police mentioned that the incident took place in Karadolo East sub-location in Ugenya Sub-county.

“Her house was set on fire prompting her to run for her safety. She took refuge in a neighboring home,” Siaya County police commander Cleti Kimaiyo said.

Upon her return, she discovered her house completely destroyed, and the 32-year-old Goro was nowhere to be found.

She reported the matter at Raredo police station, the police commander said.

“She lost property worth an estimated Ksh54,000 following the incident,” police added.

However, Goro was arrested on June 4, 2024 as police prepared to arraign him at a Ukwala Law Court.

Previously a similar incident happened in Kitengela, Kajiado County when a man torched himself inside his home, by setting the house on fire.

Police reported that the man had disagreement with his wife, before setting himself on fire.

However, it wasn’t clear what had embroiled the couple in the disagreement resulting to the man’s successful attempt suicide.
