Witness unearths infidelity claims in Agnes Tirop’s murder case

The High Court in Eldoret has heard that there were suspicions of Unfaithfulness in the Marriage of slain athlete Agnes Tirop which may have been one of the causes of her death.

While testifying in court in the murder trial of Ibrahim Rotich, husband to the late Tirop, the witness John Samoei told the court the suspect confided in him that his wife had an affair.

According to Samoei’s testament, the suspect Rotich wanted to urgently meet with him to help settle a marital dispute between the two because Rotich thought his wife (Agnes) was going out of their marriage with a military officer,

Samoei who owns a car dealership in Eldoret town also revealed that he had known the Suspect for 11 years and in 2015 Rotich introduced Agnes to him as his spouse.

After meeting Rotich, Samoei indicated that he saw how his friend appeared to have been frustrated in his marriage with Agnes Tirop.

Before the fateful day, Samoei got in touch with Tirop and talked about Ibrahim Rotich’s complaint.

Later Tirop left the country for an international assignment, when she came back to the country The couple visited Samoei at his home.

Samoei explained that both appeared jovial and perhaps had reconciled, However later on in October 13, 2021 news of her murder hit the nation.

Rotich on the other hand has pleaded not guilty in the murder of the athlete who died a month after breaking the women’s 10km record in Germany.

Justice Wananda Anuro who is hearing the case has adjourned the hearing until December 15.

A total of 27 witnesses will testify in the trial.
