Manchester City, the reigning Premier League champions, saw their flawless start to the season come to an abrupt halt at Molineux on Saturday, September 30, 2023.
In the early stages of the match, Pep Guardiola’s team had the better scoring opportunities, including Manuel Akanji’s long-range effort that missed the target.
Wolves remained competitive, and in the 13th minute, they surprisingly took the lead against the run of play, thanks to a deflection off Ruben Dias, following a dazzling run by Pedro Neto.
City’s performance in the first half was not at its peak. They however managed to level the score after the break, courtesy of a stunning free-kick by Julian Alvarez from the edge of the penalty area.
Despite relinquishing their lead, Wolves remained a threat on the counter-attack and quickly regained their advantage with a goal scored by Hwang Hee-chan just minutes later.
Despite the outcome, Manchester City are still top of the standings with 18 points, having won all their opening six games.
