Police have arrested a 43-year-old woman, identified as Kamanthe Makato for attacking her mother with a panga and killing her in Matiliku village, Makueni County on February 18, 2025.
In a statement on Wednesday February 19, 2025, the DCI reported that the victim, 71-year-old Mukeli Makato, was fetching firewood with her grandchild when Kamanthe joined them.
“A misunderstanding erupted between the mother and daughter escalating into a violent frenzy that ended in horror as Kamanthe violently attacked her mother, hacking her to death. The terrified grandchild fled the scene, screaming for help,” read part of the DCI report.
Responding swiftly to the distress call, police officers arrived to find Mukeli’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood, bearing multiple deep cuts from her head down to her legs.
The murder weapon, a blood-stained panga, was recovered at the scene and retained as an exhibit.
The victim’s body was moved to Kilome Nursing Home Hospital Morgue, where it awaits autopsy.
Meanwhile, Kamanthe is undergoing processing for her impending court appearance.
A similar incident happened in Kakamega County on Wednesday where a man struck his brother with an axe, killing him instantly during an argument over ugali in Seregeya, Likuyani constituency.
Confirming the incident on Wednesday February 19, 2025, the area village elder Cleophas Barasa said a fight broke out as the two brothers Michael Lukala na Reuben Lutabony were digging a borehole at their neighbours home.
The village elder condemned the incident, while warning residents against engaging in fighting, advising them to always seek amicable ways of solving their differences.
At the same time, Peter Lukala, the brother to the deceased said that a fight broke out after his brothers saw ugali, leading to Reuben striking Michael on the head using an axe, killing him on the spot.
