The woman who was captured in a video while abusing hospital staff at Port Victoria Hospital in Busia County has surrendered to the police.
Vanessa Ogema surrendered to Busia police station on Sunday January 7, 2024 in the afternoon while covering her face with a mask.
This was after calls for her arrest were intensified, as leaders and Kenyans in general condemned harassment of medical staff.
In the video which circulated on social media on January 3, Vanessa with another unknown man were seen harassing hospital staff.
She was seen throwing files on the floor and hitting the table while shouting at the hospital staff.

Her actions caused an uproar in the country, as members of the public and the nurses union demanded action.
For instance, the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Davji Atellah was among Kenyans who demanded her arrest.
“This is rudimentary, illegal, and immoral. The attitude and action by politicians and their cronies to threaten healthcare workers at their place of work should be curtailed,” he said.

“The safety of healthcare workers is threatened in such facilities. The perpetrators of this heinous act should be brought to book urgently,” he added.
As a result of the alleged harassment of medical staff, employees at the Port Victoria Hospital boycotted duty on January 5, forcing families to transfer patients to other medical facilities.
