Police in Kitengela, Kajiado County have arrested a woman who kept her husband’s lifeless body in the house for days.
The officers reportedly raided her home in Sifa Farm, Kitengela after neighbors complained of a foul smell emanating from their compound.
Police forced their way into the home after the 58-year-old woman denied them entry despite raising suspicion among her neighbors.
They allegedly found her husband’s body rotting away next to her bed in the living room. The woman was also found looking emaciated and sickly.
Neighbors claimed the couple subscribed to a certain religious sect that dictates them not to consume food save for bananas and watermelons.
Further, that they should not sire children. Consequently, the woman and her deceased husband did not have any children.
Police moved the corpse to City mortuary pending autopsy ahead of a burial ceremony in Nyeri County where the man comes from.
The officers further escorted the elderly woman to Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital for mental assessment.
She reportedly hails from Tanzania where she worked as a lecturer.
The deceased is said to have been an employee at City Hall, Nairobi County but retired a few years ago.
