Woman seeks to stop Kiptum’s burial, claims he sired a son with her

A 22-year-old woman identified as Edna Owuor went to court seeking to stop the burial of late World Marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum claiming that she and the 24-year-old late athlete have a son.

Through her lawyer Joseph Oyaro, Edna stated that the rights of her One year 7-month-old son rights would be violated if the burial proceeds as planned also calling on the court to order  DNA samples taken from Kiptum’s body to confirm paternity.

However, the Eldoret High Court Justice Wananda declined to stop the burial following the application by Edna Owuor through her lawyer Joseph Oyaro.

This morning mourners picked Kelvin Kiptum’s body from Eldoret Hospital Mortuary to transport to Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County, and later to his home in Chepsamo Village.

The burial is set for Friday, February 23 2024 in Iten and it will be a state function that will be attended by President William Ruto.

Business in Eldoret town on Wednesday February 21, 2024 night came to a stand still as residents came out in large numbers to light candles in honor of the late 24 year old Kenyan hero kelvin kiptum.

Boda Boda riders and other business people led the procession to the place of the candle lighting as they mourn the world marathon record holder.

Kiptum died on February 11 alongside his Rwandese coach Gervais Hakizimana  who was buried on Wednesday February 21 in Kigali,a ceremony which was attended by sports cabinet secretary Ababu Namwamba.
