Woman with 130 poisonous frogs arrested at airport

Authorities in Colombia seized 130 poisonous frogs from a Brazilian woman at the Bogota airport yesterday Monday 29 January 2024.

The woman was trafficking the colorful harlequin poisonous frog inside film containers while traveling to Sao Paulo with a stopover in Panama.

In a video shared with media, Bogota Environment Secretary Adriana Soto, the woman claimed that the frogs were a gift from a local community.

Harlequin frogs are beautiful and charismatic toads that are orange, green, yellow, brown, and black.

They are venomous and live in damp forests along the Pacific coast between Ecuador and Colombia.

The police reported that the woman carrying the frogs was arrested for the crime of wildlife Trafficking before being handed over to the prosecutor’s office.

Columbia has a reputation for Animal trafficking- one of the most biodiverse countries in the world especially amphibians and small mammals.
