World Cup Qualifiers: FIFA President Infantino to grace South Sudan vs Sudan match

FIFA President Gianni Infantino will be the chief guest at the Group B FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier fixture between South Sudan and Sudan slated for June 11th, 2024.

This is according to the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) General Secretary, Victor Lual, who confirmed that Infantino will preside over the inauguration of the refurbished Juba National Stadium, which will host the match.

“We are happy that the FIFA President will be the chief guest during this inauguration and also watch the match. This Stadium has been refurbished with funding from the World Football body,” stated Lual while speaking to cecafa online.

But before the clash in Juba, the South Sudan team will travel to face Togo, while Sudan also play away to Mauritania.

The trio of Tito Okello, Rashid Toha, and Charles Ouma, who all play for Kenya Police have been called to the South Sudan team.

Former AFC Leopards midfielder Saad Musa is also in the team ahead of the two matches.

South Sudan who have only picked a draw in two matches are bottom of the log.

Senegal currently lead Group B with 4 points after two matches, while Sudan in second place also have 4 points, but a lower goal difference. South Sudan who have only picked a draw in two matches are bottom of the log.

The other teams in the CECAFA Zone battling in the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers include ; Djibouti, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Kenya, Burundi, Somalia and Uganda.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has decided to bypass Kenya in his upcoming tour of Africa, where he is set to attend several key football events.
