German side Borussia Dortmund appears to have thrown its support behind Jadon Sancho’s apparent indifference towards his former manager, Erik Ten Hag, and Manchester United by extension. This follows the Englishman’s outstanding performance, worthy of the man-of-the-match title.
The 23-year-old was instrumental in helping the Germans secure a 1-0 advantage against French side Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final clash.
Sancho showcased the qualities that once made him one of the most highly-rated players in the world before his move to Manchester United in 2021 for a significant fee.
Pundits and fans alike have lauded Sancho’s performance, with many expressing the sentiment that he was not utilized to his full potential during his time at United.
Sancho’s subsequent return to Dortmund on loan has seen him thrive once again, further reinforcing the perception that United may have failed to extract the best from him.
“You all owe him an apology, we were ALWAYS familiar with his game,” Dortmund posted on X, accompanying the comment with a picture of Sancho in action.
During his tenure at United, Sancho’s form and attitude came under scrutiny, leading to a public dispute with manager Erik ten Hag. The rift emerged when Sancho contested Ten Hag’s assertion that he had been omitted from the squad to face Arsenal in September due to insufficient effort in training.
Characterizing himself as the ‘scapegoat,’ Sancho’s remarks were met with disapproval by Ten Hag, who subsequently marginalized him and demanded an apology. However, Sancho refused to offer an apology, resulting in his complete exclusion from the team until Dortmund provided him with an opportunity to depart, albeit temporarily, in January.
