In a rare show of opposition unity, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on Tuesday, April 29 closed ranks with fellow leaders in the opposition.
Matiang’i and former Cabinet Secretaries Mithika Linturi and Justin Muturi joined the “people’s opposition” leaders in a high-level meeting in Nairobi that focused on 2027 election plans.
Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka welcomed Matiang’i, Mithika and Muturi to the team, maintaining that that is the team that will liberate Kenyans from Kenya Kwanza Government. “This is the Team that will komboa Kenya,” Kalonzo said.
In a post on X, Gachagua congratulated the trio for joining “the right side of history”.
“The team to liberate Kenya gets bigger every day. Welcome, Dr. Fred Matiangi, Hon. JB Muturi and Hon. Mithika Linturi. You are on the right side of history.”
The meeting was attended by Kalonzo (Wiper Party Leader), Gachagua, Martha Karua (People’s Liberation Party Leader Martha Karua), Eugene Wamalwa (DAP-Kenya Party Leader), former minister Mukhisa Kituyi. Jubilee Party National Chairperson Saitoti Torome was also present.
The latest entrant into the opposition is expected to shape Kenya’s political landscape ahead of the much-anticipated 2027 presidential election.
This is the first public appearance for Matiang’i after here returned to Kenya on April 17, 2025.
Gachagua has hinted at unveiling a new party in May this year, while Karua has already unveiled her rebranded People’s Liberation Party.
