President William Ruto has strongly refuted opinions from different quarters that suggest that he has already started his 2027 re-election campaigns.
Instead, President Ruto warned his competitors to brace themselves for a campaign like no other ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“There are people complaining that I have already started campaigns, let them hold their horses, it is not yet time. When we will finally hit the campaign trail, they will take off,” President Ruto said in Bumala, Busia county, on Friday, January 24.
The accusations came especially during his concluded four-day tour of the five counties of Western Region, with critics saying that his speeches have been bordering early campaigns, in disguise of development tour.
However, the head of state insists that he is currently focusing all his energy on fulfilling the plans and promises he made to Kenyans.
During his tour in Mumias, President Ruto announced a KSh150 million bonus payout to sugarcane farmers, with many — including Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba — questioning the origin of the bonuses.
“Yule mtu wa katikati anauliza hiyo maswali. Kichwa yake ni nzuri kweli? Nataka kuambia huyo mtu wa watermelon, penye bonus ya majani chai inatoka ndiyo bonus ya miwa inatoka,” Ruto said.
Throughout his Western Region tour, President Ruto attacked his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of incompetence and profiling Kenyans on ethnic lines.
“Raila (Odinga) and I have agreed that divisive politics, hatred, discrimination must come to an end. Those who don’t believe in a united Kenya, the self-seekers, the corrupt, will not get a place in this nation of Kenya.” President Ruto said.
