The tragedy occurred around 10:00 am at the Thanaghata intersection in Labsa union, under the Satkhira Sadar upazila.

The victim, Rozina Sultana Chumki, was a 20-year-old vocational student at the SWID Khatimunnesa Hanif Laskar Intellectually Challenged School in Satkhira.

Chumki, who had an intellectual disability, was walking down the street playing music on a speaker when she encountered her attacker.

The suspect, Ilias Hossain, 27, allegedly became enraged by the noise. According to witnesses, an argument broke out before Ilias, in a fit of anger, attacked Chumki.

He struck her repeatedly on the head with a hammer, killing her instantly.

The peaceful morning turned into a nightmare for the community as the senseless violence unfolded before their eyes.

Locals quickly acted, detaining Ilias as he attempted to flee the scene.

He was handed over to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), who later arrested him along with four others, including his parents.

RAB Commander Faisal Tanvir confirmed the arrests and shared that Ilias had been injured by the crowd in the aftermath and was admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital.

Sakhina Khatun, a witness, recounted the horrifying moment, saying, “Chumki was just walking and playing music. Ilias hit her on the head, and she died right there.”

The shock in her voice echoed the grief felt throughout the neighbourhood.
