Although many of them had qualified and met both physical and academic requirements, their tattoos disqualified them.
Most of them revealed that they got their tattoos drawn while in high school when they didn’t know any better.

“I live in Thika and I’m here for the NYS recruitment but it did not go as expected because I have a tattoo which has disqualified me. I had the tattoo while I was in high school at the time it was not a big deal but now I see why my parents were against it,” one of the youth told TV47.
Other youths were dismissed due to errors in their national identification cards which read that their place of birth was far from the recruitment center.
The ongoing NYS recruitment exercise was announced to the general public and was scheduled to kick off from Monday 5th to 9th February 2024.
