Yvette Obura, Musician Bahati’s baby mama, recently shared a deeply emotional story about her struggles after she nearly became homeless and reaching her lowest point.
The revelation came during a live TikTok session on September 2, 2024, where Yvette courageously opened up about losing almost everything last year and the difficult journey to get back on her feet.
Despite being a well-known digital creator, she had kept her hardships away from the public eye, fearing the harsh backlash and trolling on social media. She even contemplated moving back in with her mother.
“Last year I was on the verge of being homeless. I was in a very bad place, and it’s something that only people close to me know about,” Yvette revealed during the live session.
Fear of trolls
She admitted that the fear of trolls and negative comments weighed heavily on her, preventing her from speaking out sooner.
“There are things we just can’t put on social media because of trolling, negativity, and all that,” she said, adding that the decision to protect herself from online criticism added to the pressure of dealing with her struggles.
The idea of returning to a place she had once left to build her life felt like a step backward, but her mother remained a constant source of support.
“I lost everything [in April]. When I say everything I mean, from plates to what to what, everything. I remember telling my sister I’m relocating from a two bedroom to a one bedroom, bedsitter or to my mum, I went to her place for a week,” she said.
She added: “I remember I used to lock myself up in the bedroom, I used to cry. But one thing about me, I never give up on God. I never give up on praying. I trusted in God, picked myself up.”
Life as Bahati’s Baby Mama
Yvette is no stranger to the limelight, given her history with gospel-turned-secular musician Bahati.
Together, they share a daughter, Mueni Bahati, and while their co-parenting relationship has had its ups and downs, Yvette has largely maintained her privacy.
However, she acknowledged the fact that their daughter has two supportive parents and when things were not going well for her, Bahati was there for their daughter.
“Thank God she [Mueni Bahati] has two able parents. If she lacks something here, she can definitely get it from the other side,” Yvette said, appreciating the co-parenting relationship.
In sharing her experience, Yvette aims to inspire others going through difficult times to hold on and keep moving forward.
“If you told me last year that around this time, I would be able to afford a trip to Dubai, my flight, visas, hotel room, and all the miscellaneous expenses, I wouldn’t have believed it. It’s such a blessing,” Yvette said with gratitude, highlighting how far she has come.
