Raila breaks silence after Joho, Mbadi, Oparanya and Wandayi nomination to Cabinet

ODM leader Raila odinga has broken his silence after four of his party members were nominated to Cabinet by President William Ruto.

In a statement to newsrooms on Thursday, July 25, Raila – who doubles up as Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader – insisted that neither his party nor the opposition coalition had entered into an agreement with President Ruto’s government.

“We had anticipated the crafting of clear terms of engagement based on issues we raised in our various communiques,” Raila said.

While extending his best wishes to the four Cabinet nominees, the opposition supremo insisted that the opposition will stick to advocating a national engagement under the conditions outlined previously, which include;

  1. Compensation to the families of the victims of extra-judicial executions and persons injured by the state since last year.
  2. Release of all persons in custody and termination of all cases related to protests since last year.
  3. Prosecution of policemen involved in shooting to kill or maim protestors.

“ODM remains steadfast in upholding its foundational principles of democracy, good governance, and social justice. These principles shall at all times guide our actions and decisions as we strive for the betterment of our nation,” he added.

He further urged all stakeholders to remain committed to the ideals of unity and progress for the prosperity of all Kenyans.

On Wednesday, July 24, President Ruto nominated ODM Deputy Leaders Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, ODM Chairperson John Mbadi and Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi to Cabinet.
