Ruto reveals reasons behind nominating ODM Party members to the Cabinet

President William Ruto now says that the choices of his new Cabinet appointments are aimed at ending the country’s political divisions.

Speaking to residents of Tharaka Nithi on Thursday, July 25, President Ruto said that the revamped “broad-based” government would foster unity among Kenyans and put an end to the previously biased leadership.

He emphasized that the new appointees would play key roles in various government functions, such as ensuring proper tax collection and managing the country’s debt repayment.

“Yesterday, I established a government designed to unite all Kenyans, as I believe there is no need for bias,” President Ruto stated. “Let’s come together to build a government that serves all Kenyans and promotes national development.”

The President also called for an immediate end to the anti-government protests, describing them as counterproductive and a significant obstacle to the country’s progress.

Ruto noted that criminal elements had infiltrated the peaceful protests, leading to property damage and theft.

“I urge you, Kenyans, to stop destroying our country, stop the demonstrations, and stop harming one another. Let’s protect Kenya and focus on development,” Ruto implored the Tharaka Nithi residents.

His remarks followed the announcement of the second batch of cabinet secretary nominees, including four senior members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

During a press briefing at State House in Nairobi, the President nominated ODM’s John Mbadi (Treasury), Opiyo Wandayi (Energy and Petroleum), Ali Hassan Joho (Mining), and Wycliffe Oparanya (Ministry of Co-operatives).

Ruto’s decision to include opposition leaders in his administration comes two weeks after he pledged to form an inclusive, broad-based government.
